Eyes of Stone, Fire of Home

Eyes of Stone, Fire of Home

By this gate, by this threshold, stand,
A sentinel born of stone and serpents’ strand.
Medusa gazes, fierce and bright,
Turning away the shadow, holding back the night.

Her hair of snakes, each twist a ward,
Against all harm, all ill, all marred.
No evil foot shall pass her sight,
No whispered ill shall cross this light.

Laurel frames her, flame beneath,
Guarding hearth, keeping safe all breath.
By her face, no misfortune treads,
Her eyes a shield above our heads.

Passersby, wanderers, all who roam,
Know this home is sacred, guarded, whole.
Enter with peace, depart in grace,
All who dwell here are held in place.

Hic domus a malis custodiatur,
Under stone, under serpent, under flame,
Blessed by gaze, by guardian sure,
Protected in her unyielding name.

Here walls endure, here hearts are kept,
Here safety reigns while eyes have slept.
By Medusa’s face, by serpents’ might,
This house stands steadfast, day and night.
